Desk Do-Over

I really wanted a small desk for my son's room.  Originally, I had planned on having my husband build one for him, but I happened upon this desk at a local Goodwill store:

I thought this desk had potential, and with a $20 price tag, it would be cheaper than building a desk.  I decided not to buy it right away, hoping I could convince my husband to check it out with me.  (I tend to buy things that are inexpensive, just to get them home & regret the purchase!)  Unfortunately, we weren't able to go look at it that evening, so I showed my husband a similar one I had found online.  He wasn't going for it.  The more I thought about it, the more I decided that desk would be a great addition to my son's room.

My husband begrudgingly went with me to Goodwill the next day.  Luckily, the desk was still there, and even better, furniture was 50% off!  At that moment, I decided it was destiny!  My husband actually thought it was neat & we bought it!  To make matters even better, the lady in front of us at the checkout commented on how cute she thought it was!

The top of the desk had some damage on it.  As soon as we got home, my husband popped it off, traced it onto a piece of plywood, & used his jigsaw to cut it out.

Meanwhile, I spray painted over the brown color.  Once the top was back on, I put stain & polyurethane on it.

Now, I think it looks much better & makes a great addition to my son's bedroom!

Friday I'll show you the easy headboard we made to complete the bedroom.  I hope you come back!
