$5 Decorating: Accessorizing with Thrift Store Finds

Sometimes a few thrift store accessories can help spruce up a space for very little moolah!  Here are a few pieces I have bought at the local thrift store for no more than $3 each!

One of my most beloved accessories is this brass swan I grabbed from the thrift store for $2.50.  It was a bit of a splurge, but she has already moved around the house a few times & looks good just about anywhere!

I grabbed the white vase above for just a few dollars too.  Thrift stores seem to be full of glass & ceramic vases that once held live floral arrangements.

This little urn was less than two dollars.  All it needed was a quick wash & it was ready for it’s new home.  (By the way, that flamingo picture was a free printable in a document frame from Dollar Tree!  You've got to love $1 art!)

I also love this pretty bowl that was only fifty cents!  I really wish I would have bought the other ones, since the colors would look good in pretty much every room in our house!

What are some of your favorite items to buy from thrift stores?

Styling a Round Side Table

This month, I am turning my attention to finishing up the few remaining projects in the three year living room makeover!  First up is a project I actually finished in November, but never got around to posting with the craziness of the holidays.  The current accessories that were on my round side table were just not working for me.

I still can’t pinpoint exactly what I didn't like about it, but it just seemed too dark & the lamp was a little funky (in a bad way!).  After a trip to Target & Dollar Tree, I feel the table is looking much prettier.

Threshold Lamp

I picked up the lamp & lamp shade at Target.

Cheap Accessories

The gold picture frames came from Dollar Tree.  The flamingo printable can be found here

Styling a Round Side Table

I found the little swan at St. Vincent De Paul a while ago.  It used to sit on our glass coffee table, but Evie started banging it on the glass, so I decided to move it!

I think the look is much better now!  Next up, recovering the chairs…  (Also, how is it possible that my photography has gotten WORSE??)

New Entry Table Accessories

I finally got around to restyling the dresser in the entry way.

Here is what it looked like before:

Nothing was wrong with it, but I felt the décor seemed a little heavy.

I decided to move the lamp to another room, since we never used it in this area.  I replaced it with some candles that were originally on the mantle.  I added the faux orchid from the dining room to the other side of the table top.

In the middle, I stacked a few books & placed this glass flower votive holder on top.  I got it at Hobby Lobby for the living room, but decided I liked it better here.

I really like the pop of color in the orchid!

I ended up replacing the faux orchid in the dining room with a real one from Ikea.  Originally, I was going to put the real one in the entry, but the dining room provided more sunshine, so I switched them!  My neighbor has several real orchids & told me to give it 3 ice cubes every week.  I’ve been doing it, & so far I have kept it alive!

So, have you switched any accessories around lately?  Do you have any tips for a novice orchid grower?  I’d love to hear them!
